Truck / Van Mechanic
General Description
The Ideal applicants must have both a good depth and breadth of knowledge of heavy motor vehicles (or light vehicles) and will hold at least a City & Guilds qualification or equivalent. You should be great at solving problems, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. To be considered for this role you must be highly tenacious, with an ability to communicate at all levels within the business. You will be able to continually adapt and use your knowledge to solve problems which you have never seen before, and in a variety of environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- To perform vehicle maintenance or trouble shoot defects and repair
- Produce brief details on a job card and service sheet
- Communicate with supervisory staff regularly to keep them updated on the progress of your job
- Be aware and responsible for Health & Safety of yourself and other employees
Experience
- Strong experience that has both breadth and depth of knowledge of trucks, trailers, engines, gear boxes, axles, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnosis.

Physical Requirements
- Be able to identify colours, particularly when working with electrical wiring
- Must possess a good sense of smell in order to identify features such as a developing fire, gas leak or flammable liquids
- Be able to complete a day's work including some physical exertion
- Be prepared to endure cold and hot
- Be prepared to work at height, in confined spaces, in remote areas, in dirty environments or in areas with difficult access
- Willing to work variable hours.
Experience and Technical Skills / Professional Qualifications
- B1 Licence (LIGHT VEHICLE MECHANIC)
- CE LGV licence ( HEAVY VEHICLE MECHANIC)
- City & Guilds qualifications or equivalent
- MIG welding
- Health & Safety knowledge
