Introduction
Our client is an established and successful provider of security services in the Enfield and North London area. The business was founded in the 1980's and currently turns over approximately £650,000 pa. Until 2021 the business was owner managed. In 2021 the business was acquired by a larger Group.
The founder retires from full time employment in May 2022. He wishes to work for the business as a part time sub-contract estimator from September 2022. The requirement for a Branch Manager has arisen due to this change.
Details of the Branch Manager Role
The Branch Manager reports to the Board of overriding Group. His/her Line Manager is the Group Operations Director.
The Branch Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the business in Enfield. Responsibilities include:
The role is highly varied and requires strong general management skills. Technical knowledge of the Security industry is essential. The business has delivered strong and consistent results over the last twelve months. The appointee is discouraged from unilaterally making any short-term significant changes to the day-to-day operation of the business. We nevertheless wish to see the business grow and this will require some changes/upscaling to support.
Sales growth will come from:
Currently approximately 60 percent of annual turnover is derived from the maintenance portfolio - from PPM/Monitoring fees, call out revenue and consequential revenue from service visits (replacing equipment, minor alterations and additions…). The balance comes from new installations and the associated new service contracts that are secured from this work. Future growth will come from this second highlighted area. The Branch Manager ensures that sufficient focus is kept on business develop to achieve this.
Line Management responsibilities
The business currently employs two Administrators. The postholder is responsible for their management and for ensuring that their respective duties are supported and fulfilled. The Branch Manager ensures that workload is appropriately covered at all times and assesses the future administration needs of the business.
The business currently directly employs two Engineers. The postholder ensures that these Engineers are used as productively as practicable and suitably trained and supported.
All staff must undergo formal appraisals at least once a year. The Branch Manager maintains annual training plans for all staff (including his/herself) and ensures that all statutory training is at all times kept up to date.
Summary
The breadth of responsibilities associated with this role are broad. The postholder is empowered to run then business. The Group Board is always available to provide support and guidance where needed. The commercial and operational judgement of the postholder should nevertheless be sufficient to confidently get through the usual day-to-day requirements without much need for referral. Critical is the ability to recognize risk and opportunity, determine its severity and device and (where suitable) agree plans to efficiently address both scenarios.
