Why work for UPS

  • Working for a globally recognised organisation
  • Good career opportunities
  • Promotion from within (the majority of our management people would have come up through the ranks) - this includes an internal promotion process where any non-management employee can apply to be considered for a management position at any time, they would go through an assessment centre and once passed they are in a pool until a suitable opportunity becomes available.

Within Operations, a typical career path might be:

  • Driver trainer (on road with the drivers providing training)
  • On Car Supervisor (supervises the day to day work of the drivers and does safety rides and on job supervision)
  • Centre manager (has overall responsibility for managing an operational centre)

Employees can also move in other areas such as Industrial Engineering, Hub operations, Automotive, HR, Marketing, Technical Support, Sales. We advertise all non-management jobs internally so once in, you can apply for anything.

Case Study

Colin Gordon spent 7 years in the Royal Logistics Corp, leaving as a full Corporal and joined UPS in 1995 as a part time vehicle washer/driver. He became a full time yard marshal in the Abingdon hub in 1996 and had a number of roles whilst based there - pre load team leader, local sort team leader, driver trainer – before entering full time management as an on car supervisor. Colin was an account executive for a year, and then moved back as on car supervisor for 12 months. He then moved to the engineering department as buildings and facilities supervisor for 18 months before being promoted to centre manager for Gloucester, and has since held centre manager positions at Abingdon, Manchester and Luton.
