MENTORS
Transitioning from the military to civilian life isn’t easy, especially if you weren’t expecting to leave or have served for many years. Many of the challenges are unexpected and moving on involves much more than just finding a new job. At ForceSelect we have our own experiences of this and are often called upon by friends and former military colleagues for help and advice.
We believe that those of us who can reflect on our own transition experience can offer invaluable support to new leavers. You’ll no doubt remember some of the issues that you faced around understanding the way things are done in civilian organisations, how to speak the language and how to get people to do things without issuing commands. If only you knew then what you know now!
Giving something back
ForceSelect is developing a national network of volunteers who are willing to give up some of their time to help ex-service people living in their area. We offer mentoring to every service leaver we place in a new job. Mentors are expected to meet service leavers and be available to them by telephone/email on a regular basis for up to 12 months. Would you like to help? Have you got what it takes?
We are looking to recruit a wide range of mentors who can support service leavers of all ranks and from all three services. We would love to hear from you if you:
- Have successfully transitioned into a civilian role
- Are able to meet service leavers and be available by phone out of hours (within reason)
- Have an aptitude for listening and encouraging positivity
Mentors will receive training and will have access to a variety of tools and resources with which to help and support service leavers. Expenses will be paid.
